fall styling with hunter & hare

With the leaves falling, the temperature cooling, and pumpkin-spiced scents filling the air, it all points to one thing: fall is officially in full swing! I am more than happy to have fall back. As much as I love summer, nothing makes me happier than layering knits, pulling on a fresh pair of boots, and reaching for that darker hued lipstick.

I’ve paired up with Hunter and Hare, a women’s consignment and quality goods shop located in Vancouver in the quirky Gastown neighborhood, to help you jump-start your fall outfits for any occasion. Consignment shopping has quickly gained popularity in the recent years, with sellers being able to cash in on their preloved or unworn clothing, and buyers discovering new brands they may have not stumbled upon otherwise. Because of the selective buying nature in a consignment shop, shoppers can feel reassured of the quality and condition of the clothing. Recycling clothing is a sustainable way to help keep unwanted clothing from landfills, instead putting them in new closets of happy owners.

I had a ton of fun styling 3 different fall outfits, keeping each outfit under $200 (shoes and accessories included!), which was no easy feat. All the clothing from their shop is recycled from a variety of sellers. With the help of Jo and Micki, the co-owners of Hunter and Hare, we pulled together 3 fall looks and accessorized them with some local jewelry designers.

Pink Ribbon Jacket Mine and Yours

I’ve recently come to the realization that in the last 2 months, for the exception of a pair of Target pumps and an H&M sweater I bought in a pinch, I’ve barely bought any new clothing, shoes, or accessories. If I wasn’t diligently reading fashion and style blogs, I wouldn’t know what’s out there for the fall season because I haven’t been to the mall to shop in a long while. I’ve been mainly thrifting, consigning, and swapping.

Being the youngest of 2 girls and one of the youngest amongst a whack of cousins, I know a thing or two about hand-me-downs; nary a piece of clothing wasn’t once worn by my sister or one of my older female cousins. Luckily, my relatives have a wicked sense of style so I never complained about it. Accepting preloved goods became a part of my adult life as well: when I moved out on my own, almost every piece of furniture was donated to me by a friend or family member. For me, it wasn’t only a money-saver, but paved the way for a new-found way of sustainable living.

This adorable ribbon-embellished jacket and black pumps are from Mine and Yours, a Vancouver-based and online luxury consignment shop that supports this notion that I’ve embodied my whole life by buying, trading, and selling in preloved goods. I’ve quickly learned that there is a huge and supportive sustainable fashion community here in Vancouver, which is super cool and even more encouraging for me to continue this lifestyle. I especially love it when I see others living it by donating, thrifting, or consigning. Fashion shouldn’t ever have to unnecessarily break the bank or become something you feel like you can never keep up with, and I’m glad I’ve discovered a way that doesn’t make me feel like that anymore.

Simple Black and (Off-)White

the style saver outfit
Vero Moda blouse, H&M pants, Joe Fresh flats

More often than not, I like to keep outfits simple and comfortable. This outfit was bought after a big day of warehouse sales, sample sales, and general frolicking around the city. This Vera Moda blouse had a cute bow and zip detail to make just interesting enough to stand out. The pants are simple side-zipped pants from H&M, and the Joe Fresh nude flats were (of course) on sale for $9.99. Pointy flats are hell to break in though, but they were too good of a deal to pass up.

This blouse was originally $70.00, and there was a 50% end-of-season sale, so it was just $34.99. The outfit came in at just under $73, and I didn’t feel the need for any jewelry. The blouse has been well worn and goes with just about everything!
