I’ve had the idea to go red ever since my rendition of Poison Ivy and Ariel last Halloween, when I bought a red wig off of Craigslist. This prompted a desire to dye my hair red, and since I already wanted a change for the fall season, I called up my hair stylist Gen from House of Gen to take me to the dark side.
I’m always a little bit apprehensive getting my hair dyed. The coarseness and thickness can mess around with the color I want it to get to, but I went to Gen before to do my blonde ombre before the music festival season, so I had absolute confidence she knew how to get me to redhead status.
I visited her at Zhape Studio to transition from my summery blonde ombre to a vibrant red. I wanted to get a little bit of the ends off too so they didn’t look too tapered off.
Now, I don’t get my hair done often – maybe 2 or 3 times a year for color, and 3-4 trims. I’m usually in the chair for 3 hours, and since this was a big change, this was no different. Luckily, Gen is a character and keeps me laughing, so it’s always fun to be at her disposal!
About 3 hours later, this was the result:
And more redness, in natural light:
Thanks to Gen for helping me transition to a redhead! Gen is at Zhape Studio (1383 Richards St, Vancouver, BC) and is by appointment only, through houseofgen.com.
